3 idiots Mumbai, Jan 11 (THAINDIAN NEWS) The Nokia 16th annual STAR Screen Awards, were held at the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) grounds on Saturday. 21 films were nominated in the awards and the biggest winners were Paa and ‘3 Idiots’. Paa won 5 awards in all, which included the Best Actor award for Amitabh, Best Actress for Vidya Balan, Best Child Actor for Pratik and Best Supporting Actress for Arundhati Nag. A whooping 138 Hindi films were released in the year 2009. And out of these, 21 films were selected for nominations for the awards in the various categories.
Aamir Khan’s 3 Idiots won the Best Film of 2009 award. This movie is based on the book ‘Five Point Someone’ by Chetan Bhagat. Rajkumar Hirani won the Best Director award for the movie ‘3 Idiots’. In fact 3 Idiots has set a record by getting the highest number of nominations in the 16 years of the award’s history. It also bagged the award for the best screenplay. Rajkumar Hirani and Abhijat Joshi jointly won this award.
The best female singer award was won by Kavita Sethi for the song “Ek tara” from “Wake Up Sid”, and the best male singer award was won by Rahat Fateh Ali Khan for “Aaj din chadeya” from the love-centric movie “Love Aaj Kal”. Imitiaz Ali bagged the best story award for “Love Aaj Kal”.
The Star Screen award for the best performance in a comic role went to Omi Vaidya for “3 Idiots”, while the award for the best actor in a negative role went to Boman Irani for “3 idiots”. The Oscar winner A.R. Rahman won the Best Music award for “Delhi 6″.
